The Mitsubishi Space Wagon's powerful, commanding presence has earned it the nickname "Big Daddy" in Japan. Wider, longer and taller than its predecessor, the new Space Wagon might well be called "Bigger Daddy" It is also a thoroughly modern dad, combining an enhanced respect for the environment and added safety features with the maneuverability interior space and practicality associated with the model since its introduction. The new Space Wagon has so many environment-friendly features that it almost redefines the concept of a responsible motorist. The third generation Space Wagon is a multi-purpose vehicle that appeals to every generation. Versatile Interior
The exterior dimensions of the Mitsubishi Space Wagon are fully exploited within. There is ample space for up to six or seven adults, plus their luggage, with good head and leg room for all. New features include a fully flat floor and, on some versions in selected markets, a center console mounted shift lever, which make it possible to walk unencumbered from the cabin front through to the rear. The flexibility within the Space Wagon cabin is outstanding. The Contemporary Good Looks three rows of multi-adjustable seats pockets, a large glove box, a third conveniently placed cup holder can be reconfigured with ease. Seats can be slid forward or back, laid fully flat or folded up and tumbled forward, and third row seats can be removed completely. Of course, the greater the number of options, the more tasks that the Space Wagon can do. Clean, Tailored Performance
The new Space Wagon is filled with the very latest in Mitsubishi technology. It is available with either 5-speed manual transmission or INVECS-Il (Intelligent & Innovative Vehicles Electronic Control System) automatic, which not only matches the optimal gear and shift timing to the road and driving conditions, but also learns and adapts to each individual's preferred driving style. The Mcpherson strut front suspension mounts coil springs to a highly rigid sub-frame, delivering highly stable handling and a quiet ride. The Space Wagon's 2.4-liter 16-valve SOHC ECI MULTI engine's smooth throttle response also contributes to the vehicle's smooth and quiet handling. Fitted with Mitsubishi's acclaimed multi-point fuel injection, the new engine offers superb fuel economy, excellent power and torque, and very low exhaust emissions. Green Machine The new Space Wagon upgraded environment-friendly features are inherent in every aspect of its design. The air conditioner uses HFC, not CFC, as refrigerant, thereby reducing damage to the ozone layer. The urethane foaming agent used for seat padding and in the steering wheel is freon-free. The instrument panel's laminated components incorporate easily recyclable materials. The fibers in the dashboard silencer padding are made from recycled clothing and PET bottIes. Gaskets, disc brake pads and friction linings are now asbestos free. In short, the new Space Wagon reflects modern concerns about the environment and sets the pace in acting on those concerns. Safety
The Space Wagon has a number of active safety features to help the driver avoid accidents. These include a high-mount stop light, ABS, anti-trapping power windows and sunroof, and large aspheric door mirrors which increase the driver's field of vision. There is also an array of passive safety features to improve occupant protection should an accident occur. The Space Wagon's perimeter frame ensures higher body rigidity, with all that implies in the event of a collision. Body rigidity is further enhanced by the new side-sill reinforcements, which bring the added advantage of decreasing overall weight. The newly developed collapsible steering wheel collapses forward (away from the driver) in the event of a frontal collision. A shock-absorbing knee protector helps prevent injuries to the driver's legs.
